Amanda’s story
Amanda Challans is a seasoned management consultant and military-trained record breaking ocean rower, on a mission to challenge the boundaries of what’s possible and inspire and empower listeners and readers.
She founded Bristol-based consultancy, Riven Consulting Ltd in 2010, and has been dubbed a ‘professional problem solver’ by her high profile clients, such as Google, Ovo Energy, the Institute of Physics, and Lloyds Banking Group who all credit Amanda for playing a pivotal leadership role ensuring the smooth delivery of steep transformation, company innovation and high-pressured company process design and delivery.
From being locked away on a secret project developing security software with a bunch of techies to delivering inspiring leadership and development training, Amanda’s down-to-earth interactive approach makes her effective and memorable in her ability to manage complex situations and influence long-term culture change.
Her drive and determination to bring people together to achieve what appears to be the seemingly impossible, stems from the misfortune of being diagnosed with M.E ten years ago and self-studying everything she could relating to health, human performance and energy levels to recover. She’s tested the limits in a way that the old wheelchair-bound version of herself could only dream of.
She is now a Guinness world record breaking Ocean Rower - rowing the mid-Pacific from California to Hawaii, unsupported, for 51 days as part of the first female team to make it across.
Amanda’s innate ability to create efficiencies and inspire teams is not just limited to the ocean and the C-Suite.
Through her work with companies and individuals, Amanda is on a mission to spread hope and practical insights into what is humanly possible.
Now fully recovered (and then some!) Amanda has a newfound passion for life, personal growth, and adventure. She recently rowed solo across the Baltic, from Sweden to Finland and is invited to share her stories on stages and in workshops around the world.
